Kyle James Auffrey is a lampwork artist working under the name KJA Glassworks. He gathers color, cane, and clear glass in a focused flame and seals miniature scenes inside finished pieces.

What is lampwork or torchwork, and how is it different from stained glass?

Lampwork — also called torchwork or flameworking — heats glass rods in a bench torch and shapes them by hand. Color lives in the glass; small forms are assembled and then enclosed before the vessel closes. Stained glass is a different craft: cut sheets of glass joined with lead came or copper foil into panels and windows. KJA Glassworks is lampwork, not stained glass.
